Paris for the romantics

October 13, 2015

Looking to rekindle the flames with a romantic escape? Paris, the name itself spells magic. With its luxurious lifestyle, artistic allure and reverence for all the finer things in life, Paris is simply the most romantic city on earth. A romantic cruise on the Seine, a peck in front of the “Wall of I Love You’’, or a proposal atop the Eiffel tower, Paris still has all the right ingredients for an unforgettable rendezvous.

Royal service

What could be more romantic than being treated like royalty? Crystal chandeliers, fine linens, antique furnishings, the latest technologies hidden behind the most rustic settings, and a banquet fit for a king. For a truly royal experience opt to stay at the La Suite Shangri La; a plush property with a private terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy an extravagant Sunday brunch with organic farm fare at the Hotel Lancaster, or spend your afternoon indulging in a selection of teas and brioche at the Four Seasons George V. Visit the Chateau de Versailles for a captivating evening of magical Fountain Night Shows and a beautiful display of fireworks over the Grand Canal. Feeling too regal to walk? Ask to be chauffeured by a local Parisian, charmingly dressed in a striped shirt and trousers, in an open-roof tour of Paris in his vintage convertible Citröen CV2.

Bon Appétit!

The French love their food; they live to eat and drink. In fact the act of enjoying a meal in good company, called ‘répas’ in French, is so important to Parisians that it has been added to the UNESCO world culture heritage list. Be adventurous, order an escargot to share at the L’Ecailler du Bistrot, or opt for a drizzle of truffle oil on your ‘foie gras’ at the La Tour d’Argent. Paris has an array of Michelin starred restaurants and deluxe eateries to choose from, but don’t forget to try the more local fare at the local cafes, and open food stands lining the pebbled streets of the city.

Get romantic by getting lost

As a city brimming with enigmatic enclaves and undiscovered adventures, one can easily find satisfaction by charging off in a direction and uncovering some of Paris's hidden gems. Meander alongside the famed River Seine at night. You're bound to encounter its famed late-night tango dancers. Or saunter through alleyways during the day and discover sidewalk cafes, open markets, cobblestone streets, and the gripping scents of local bakeries. Ideal starting points include the Marais District and the Butte aux Cailles.

Sensational Scenery

The entire city features a vibrant backdrop to your romantic adventure! Snap photos or steal a kiss in front of Paris's abundant Gothic churches, historic pieces of architecture, grand monuments, or verdant parks. The sprawling Luxembourg Gardens and Parc de Belleville appear as if they came from a fairytale. Given how many fairytales are set in France, it's unsurprising.

Creativity abounds

Human expression is the lifeblood of Paris; emotion conveyed through performance art, sculpture, painting, music, and more beats through every street and alleyway. For an unforgettable aesthetic experience, visit the Louvre or Quai Branly Museum at night; they're less crowded and much more romantic. For art of the more lively kind, consider visiting one of the city's innumerable, exciting jazz clubs. Le Caveau des Oubliettes, a jazz club set in a 12th century wine cellar, is one of the city's most precious and unique experiences.
