Despite being a relatively small country, Ireland is known all over the world for having a wide collection of awe-inspiring natural wonders. Travellers have always been fascinated by its unique and quite dramatic rock formations as well as magnificent mountains.  From the Cliffs of Moher to the Giant’s Causeway built by the giant Finn McCool (or so the legend goes), feast your eyes with the following pictures that will surely have you wondering when you will visit the Irish lands.

Giant’s Causeway

The ancient Irish believed this geological phenomenon to be the work of a giant a very long time ago. This fascinating landscape of layered basalt located in County Antrim is actually the first World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland.

County Kerry

Located in the peninsular southwest region of Ireland, County Kerry is popular even among locals for its striking landscapes. For the best scenic drive, take a car and head to the Ring of Kerry or the Ring of Beara. This area is one of the most beautiful spots in the world, particularly between Waterville and Caherdaniel southwest of the peninsula.

Mourne Mountains

The Mourne Mountains are another location in Northern Ireland that is stunningly beautiful. If you’re heading from Belfast to Newcastle, you will notice the majestic mountains dominating the skyline. The Mourne Mountains have a total of twelve peaks over 600 meters high including the highest mountain in the region, Slieve Donard.

Cliffs of Moher

Ranging in height from a jaw-dropping 120-214 metres above the Atlantic Ocean, these huge cliffs have been a magnet for travellers from all over the world. The Cliffs of Moher are located in Co Clare, stretching for about 8 kilometres. A cliff walk here is rejuvenating but don’t get too close to the edge!

Connemara

Translating to “Inlets of the Sea,” Connemara is a region in North West Galway boasting incredible scenery. Oscar Wilde once described the dazzling Connemara as savage beauty. If you want to experience the real beauty of Ireland, Connemara has to be among your must-visit destinations. There are endless biking and hiking trails to discover Connemara.

Wicklow Mountains

Wicklow is known as the Garden of Ireland thanks to its dramatic and amazing scenery. Although the mountains are just a small distance away from Dublin, they will feel a bit remote. They provide endless opportunities to enjoy walks and excursions surrounded by nature. The mountains formed during the Ice Age millions of years ago. Today you will find beautiful lakes and deep glacial valleys within the mountains. The panoramic view is simply unforgettable.
