Overview
From Greek palaces to Byzantine mosaic paintings, Jordan is an art lover’s paradise. Wade through the spectacular wadis (valleys) or relax on the sandy beaches of the Dead Sea for a unique holiday experience.
Jordan is known for its rich heritage which is reflected in its architecture and culture. Amman, the capital of Jordan, is one of the oldest cities of the world and is famous for its historical buildings. These include the beautiful mosques and citadels.
The archaeological museums in Jordan are known for their untarnished collection of antiquities of the various civilizations and eras in Jordan history. The Jordanian spice markets sell aromatic spices that are used in their staple food. Popular Jordanian dishes include the Mansaf, a lamb dish cooked with yogurt and served mostly with rice and Maqluba, a dish which consists of meat, rice, and stir-fried vegetables. There are both traditional and modern restaurants in Jordan where you can relish the local cuisine.
The traditional bazaar is a favorite place for tourists to purchase souvenirs to take home. The museums showcase art and artifacts dating back to the Paleolithic period. You will see primitive tools that were used during this period along with other artifacts. The nightlife is also catching up in big cities such as Amman.
