The city of Zurich is the heart of Switzerland
1. Shopping
Stroll alongside the nearly mile-long strip of the most exclusive shops you will ever see. That is what you will get when you pay Bahnhofstrasse a visit. There are lots of shopping malls and districts in Zurich, but Bahnhofstrasse is the shopping mecca in this city. And it is Europe’s most expensive retail property too.
You do not even have to empty your wallet to enjoy it either. The windows are filled with fur, fashion, and luxury goods that make window shopping a cinch. Simply walking through this traffic-free zone is an experience. And be on the lookout for Porsches and Ferraris, you will never see more of these cars than on the streets of downtown Zurich.

2. Dinning
The food scene in Zurich is simply superb. If you’re after the all-too-famous cheese fondue, Zurich is the best place to find it; the first ever recipe for this iconic Swiss dish was written in the city. But of course, there is more to Swiss cuisine than cheese and chocolates, and you will find all of them in Zurich.
One of the quintessential dishes to try is the Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, which literally translates to “meat cut Zurich style”. In colder weather, a nice pot of Zürcher Eintopf would do the trick.
Zurich is also home to 144 Michelin restaurants, so if you are after a more sophisticated dining experience, you will surely have your pick in this city.

3. Nature
Zurich is a gateway to explore central Switzerland. There are so many great day-trips to take from Zurich that you’ll want to put aside some of your time to get out of the city and explore. The Rhine Falls (Europe’s largest waterfall), the beautiful and historic city of Lucerne, and towering Mount Titlis are all within a day’s trip of Zurich.
Sometimes the city gets too much and nature calls. Zurich has the perfect escape route as it is surrounded by hills and mountains. For a few examples, you can hike the Schauenberg Nordic Trail, highest trail around Zurich; or take a trip to the top of the Uetliberg, the city’s nearest mountain that offers a spectacular panorama of the city, Lake Zurich and the distant Alps. If hiking is not your kind of thing there’s always the many parks of Zurich that bring a little of the country’s greenery closer to you.

4. Chocolate
Visit chocolate shops while seeing some of the best parts of the city. The chocolate ranges from fun sweet treats to fine artisan works of art, nice to eat along the way or pack up for treats later.

5. Family Time
Serving as the most common point of arrival in Switzerland, Zurich is the best location to kick off a grand and memorable vacation throughout the country. Kid-friendly highlights include admiring the locks on the footbridges throughout the Old Town, playing in the pretty squares and taking a chocolate-making lesson. For a change in scenery, head to Zurich’s more modern areas, where teens will enjoy edgy design and children can play in gardens made from converted shipping containers. Zurich’s kid-friendly accommodation scene is incredibly robust and diverse. Options include modern luxury hotels as well as historic and charming inns that have welcomed guests for centuries.
