langkawi
Langkawi, or the Jewel of Kedah, is an archipelago of 104 stunning islands. Blessed with gorgeous white beaches, rainforests, unique rock formations, waterfalls, and massive jungles home to exotic wildlife, this tropical paradise simply has to be on your bucket list of new adventures. The best time to visit the islands is between December and March in order to fully enjoy all the amazing outdoor activities. Here’s a list of the best 8 things to do during your visit and make sure you benefit from the cheapest flights available now from Dubai.

Jet Ski tour (island hopping)

This is definitely the number one activity in Langkawi as you can explore the beautiful islands and enjoy the surrounding breath-taking scenery in such a fun way. You’ll find so many beautiful islets, clear waters, and bizarre rock formations. A major stop in the tour is the amazing Pulau Dayang Bunting, which is a protected area that is part of Langkawi Geopark, and also the large fresh water lake hidden behind the mountains. There are huge rocks dividing the fresh water from sea water and a dive in the lake is an absolute must.

Langkawi Underwater World

A huge structure spreading across six acres, Langkawi Underwater World is the largest aquarium in Malaysia and is among the most popular attractions. The fascinating aquarium is home to more than 500 different species of sea creatures including harbor seals, sharks, rockhopper penguins, and the Amazonian arapaima, the largest freshwater fish in the world. You can enjoy close-up views by walking through the mesmerising underwater tunnel.

Cable Car and Sky Bridge

cablecar
A ride in the popular Langkawi cable car called SkyCab is not for the faint hearted. If you’re up for the challenge, enjoy a heart-stopping steep ride up towards Mat Chinchang Mountain (the second tallest mountain in Langkawi) and take in the breath-taking panoramic view of Langkawi’s rainforests, waterfalls, and islets at the top. It is for sure worth the ride which is 15 minutes long and you can choose a normal communal cable car, a private cable car, or a very interesting glass bottom cable car to look down upon the trees below. At the end of the ride, you’ll find the Sky Bridge. It is about 125 meters long and 700 meters above sea level, perfect for great photos and memories.

Pulau Payar Marine Park

This is a well-known spot for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts. Located just 45 minutes away from Kauh Jetty of the main island, you can reach the park by a speedboat or catamaran. The park is comprised of four islands and the most beautiful section of the marine park is Coral Garden, which is a secluded area that has an amazing collection of colourful corals. The best way to explore is by joining a tour group and their package already includes snorkelling gear, lunch, and drinking water.

Parasailing

Parasailing is among the coolest activities you can try. Imagine smoothly flying using a parachute 95 meters above sea level and being pulled by a speedboat while enjoying surreal views of the beach and islands below. Words cannot describe the unique feeling. The best location in Langkawi for parasailing is the amazing Tanjung Rhu beach and the duration is commonly 10 minutes. Try not to be scared of the height and deeply take in the spectacular view.

Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls

Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls are Langkawi’s most famous natural attraction. The name translates to Seven Wells Waterfalls because they consist of seven connected natural pools fed by seven separate waterfalls in Gunung Mat Chincang Mountain, providing a beautiful view. Adventure seekers can take on the 45-minute long climb to the top of the waterfalls, which is quite a steep climb past huge unique rocks. You can also enjoy a dip in the amazing water.

Langkawi Arts in Paradise 3D Museum

This interesting museum features more than 200 impressive artworks that appear lifelike when photographed. It is the largest 3D art museum in Malaysia and the second largest in the world displaying nine different zones (optical illusion, aquatic, safari, fantasy, classic, castles, landscapes, Egypt, and Malaysia) within a three-storey building. The museum is conveniently located next to the Langkawi Cable Car in Oriental Village.

Gunang Raya Mountain

Hailed as the highest peak in Langkawi at 881 meters high, the Gunang Raya is a popular site for hiking. The locals believe that the mountain is the cursed form of a giant called Mat Raya who once lived on the island. The mountain is surrounded by dense rainforests with a variety of wildlife from leaf monkeys, squirrels, and mountain hawk eagles to flying foxes. It is recommended to bring a guide with you while hiking as the trail is quite challenging.
