The joyous celebration of Eid involves rejoicing with your loved ones, bringing out the spirit of togetherness, feasting on delectable dishes and a dazzling display of fireworks. Every household prepares a lavish spread, and the whole family gathers around the dining table to enjoy the feast. Eid cuisine across the world has adapted to the region, and has taken inspiration from the local cuisine. Here we take a look at the Eid specialities from different parts of the world.

Tagine

A slow-cooked stew made of meat and spices, Tagine is a common dish prepared in North Africa, Tunisia and Morocco during Eid celebrations. It is named after the cookware in which it is prepared, an earthen pot with a conical lid.

Ketupat is a dumpling made with rice, and packed in palm leaf pouches. The Malaysians swear by this dish which is cooked in coconut milk. Wrapped in artfully woven leaves, Ketupat is also popular in Indonesia, Singapore and Philippines during Eid celebrations.

Biryani is a classic, versatile rice dish. This is prepared by layering cooked rice and meat in a casserole, and then flavoured with aromatic spices. South Asian countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh feast on Biryani during Eid celebrations, and wash it down with Kheer, a rice-based sweet dish.

Dolma is a dish made of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants or grape leaves stuffed with meat, rice or spices. Often served with tahini, egg-lemon or garlic yoghurt sauce, dolma is a popular dish in the Middle eastern, Balkan and Caucasus regions.

Assorted platters of kebabs always take centre stage in Middle Eastern homes during the Eid fiesta. Juicy, succulent chunks of beef, lamb or chicken are cooked on a grill or barbecued to perfection, and served with varieties of dips and bread or vegetables.
