Ready for an epic adventure amidst the Alps?

Innsbruck is best known for its amazing architecture, history, and culture, but below are some exciting activities to fuel the thrill-seeker in you!

Just north of the city center, Old Town, lies the majestic Nordkette mountain range, which is one of the four mountain chains of the Karwendel. The most popular summit, the 2,300m-high Hafelekar (also known as the Top of Innsbruck) can be reached by cable car and funicular, and yields spectacular panoramic views of the mountain range, alongside the city.

Here in the summer, you get the opportunity to indulge in a wide range of adrenaline-filled activities like hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, paragliding, and hang gliding.

Don't forget to also stop by the Alpine Zoo, which is also accessible by the funicular, and is open all year round. It is one of Europe’s highest zoos at 750m, and houses more than 2000 animals of 150 different Alpine species.

Heading south, you’ll find yourself at the Patscherkofel mountain, Innsbruck’s second Alpine masterpiece that surrounds the town. While it's home to the renowned Patscherkofel ski resort, a three-time Winter Olympics venue, it is also known for its wide range of summer activities. The mountain is a popular location for mountain biking and hiking, with around 60 marked hiking trails, including those suitable for families and children. Alternatively, you could also take the Patscherkofel mountain lift which takes you up to the numerous hiking trails, or simply stop on the way to enjoy a cup of coffee by the stunning panoramic views. Another attraction you’d definitely not want to miss is Austria’s highest botanical garden, located right next to the mountain lift, situated at an altitude of 2,000 meters.

At the foot of the mountain, the charming village of Igls also offers an additional array of activities like golf, luge, wok sledding, summer bobsleighing, and horse riding.

Heading west, on the lookout for a more relaxed choice of activity, you could book a tent or a caravan to camp by the Natterer See, a lake in which you can try out several watersports and hike around. The lake is most popular for swimming, along with other activities like canoeing, water volleyball, water polo, and the Happy Swing, a 66 meter long water slide.

And lastly, for the perfect way to wind down after your exhilarating day, drop by Lanser see, an alpine moorland bathing lake. The lake is renowned for its vast sunbathing spots, incredibly clean water, and even the occasional yoga or shiatsu classes that take place by the lake.
